Charter Support

What You Need to Apply

Everything you need to know to join as a support worker.

How the application works

Applying to become a support worker is straightforward. Most people complete the process within two weeks.

1

Create your profile

Sign up on the platform and tell us about yourself — your experience, skills, interests, and availability. This helps us match you with the right clients.

2

Submit your documents

Upload your required checks and certifications. We will verify everything and let you know if anything is missing or needs updating.

3

Complete onboarding training

Finish the Academy induction modules covering safety, professional boundaries, the NDIS Code of Conduct, and how to use the platform.

4

Get verified and go live

Once your documents are verified and training is complete, your profile goes live. Clients in your area can find you, and you can start accepting shifts.

Requirements and checks

To keep the people we support safe, all workers must hold current checks and clearances. Here is what you will need.

NDIS Worker Screening Check

Required

A mandatory clearance for anyone working in the NDIS. You can apply through your state or territory screening unit. We cover the cost.

National Police Check

Required

A criminal history check issued within the last 12 months. You can obtain one through the Australian Federal Police or an accredited provider.

First Aid & CPR Certificate

Required

A current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate (or equivalent). CPR must be renewed annually and First Aid every three years.

Working With Children Check

Conditional

Required if you plan to support anyone under 18. The process and name varies by state — e.g., Blue Card in QLD, WWC Check in VIC.

COVID-19 Vaccination

Required

Evidence of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations as per current government requirements for disability support workers.

Right to Work in Australia

Required

Proof that you are legally permitted to work in Australia — Australian passport, birth certificate, or valid work visa.

Qualifications that stand out

Formal qualifications are not always mandatory — lived experience and the right attitude matter too. However, holding one of these qualifications can boost your profile and open up higher-rate support types.

Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
Certificate IV in Disability
Certificate III in Aged Care
Diploma of Community Services
Bachelor of Social Work or Occupational Therapy
Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse qualifications
